Sawblade and belt drive

Currently probably the only working water-powered sawmill in Scotland.

The Kirkdale sawmill is driven by an overshot water-wheel and dates from the early 1800's. It was used as an estate sawmill and joiners' shop until the 1970's.

In 2004 it was restored with the help of a European grant, and was opened as a visitor attraction in 2005. In 2016 it was temporarily closed for repair due to damage caused by flash floods, but seasoned hard woods are still available for sale ( See contact).
